A Woodburn Homestead Wedding // Sarah and James

I first crossed paths with Sarah some years back when I was photographing her mum Maria’s wedding (yes, I’ve been doing this for a while now!), and when she told me she was getting married at Woodburn Homestead I got an extra thrill as this was a venue I was yet to shoot at and had been eying off for ages.

I wasn’t disappointed.

Sarah and James both got ready at Woodburn (in different areas) and decided to do a first look – a great idea for a winter wedding (not quite so beneficial for a peak summer wedding). I was bouncing back and forth between the guys and girls while everyone was getting suited and frocked up, and before long it was time for the big reveal. You’re spoilt for choice with locations at Woodburn Homestead, but we settled on a cute little wall thing alongside the main house for the first look backdrop and it was perfect. Once the nerves were out of the way, we jumped into a few photos before the guests started arriving, this is always a risk for a first look at the same location as the ceremony, but we managed to stay on top of the timeline and avoided any surprise reveals.

The ceremony location at Woodburn is just incredible; this beautiful old ruin that is so perfect it feels like it was custom-built for a movie (it wasn’t). There were tears, a lot of laughter, and Sarah and James’s beautiful, playful connection was in full swing throughout the ceremony and into the evening.

It was a cold night, but the dance floor was red hot, and when the cheese toasties started circulating around 9:30pm it felt like heaven on earth, a festive end to a magical day.

This was an extra special wedding for me, as two of my previous couples were there, the aforementioned Maria and John, as well as a couple from this time last year Yesica and Joe (plus their brand new baby 😍). Sarah and James, thanks for inviting me to document your day; here’s to a lifetime of love and laughter.
