New Years Eve Wedding on Hindmarsh Island // Mara and Steve

The two greatest party events on any social calendar – New Years Eve and your wedding. Mara and Steve decided to combine the two with their incredible Hindmarsh Island wedding held on Steve’s family’s gorgeous property right on the water.

After a wild few weeks, the weather gods decided to smile on Hindmarsh Island and delivered a perfect mid 20’s day and some stunning golden hour light for a few sneaky photos.

I personally love a wedding on New Years, since my kids came along I’m rarely awake past 10:30pm on the 31st so it’s a great excuse to get me out of the house and surrounded by people who are ready to party!

Mara and Steve, thank you so much for inviting me along to document your day, this was absolutely one to remember!

Q & A

Tell me about your The Beginning!

We met at the infamous Adelaide karaoke bar “La Sing” one fateful Saturday night. Who said nothing good happens after 2am?

When and where did you get engaged?

We got engaged on Christmas Eve, 2021. Steve asked Mara to go for a walk along the beach. When we found a secluded area, Steve said he wanted to set up a photo on automatic timer. As he came back, Mara realised it was not a photo, but that he was holding a ring. The camera captured the whole thing on video.

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?

Our wedding will be held at Steve’s parents riverside property near Goolwa, SA. With a beautiful clear marquee, fairy lights, and the river as the backdrop, it’s sure to be a magical setting.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Walking back down the aisle knowing we are married and seeing all the people that we love’s happy faces looking at us

Top Tips!

Organise the small details like decor, polaroid cameras, jewellery as early as possible! You’d be surprised how many small details there are and it can be very overwhelming if you leave them to the last minute! Another hot tip, pay more than just the deposits, start paying full amounts for your suppliers in the lead up. This will save a you having to pay a big bill a week before the Wedding!
