I’ve seen a lot in 17 years of shooting weddings, and it’s always an incredible thrill when something new comes along, so when Imogen and Ray told me their plan for the first dance at their Lake Breeze Wines wedding it’s fair to say I was a bit excited. Rather than the usual dance, they decided Ray would play the guitar while Imogen performed an Irish dance. This alone was pretty exciting, but what I didn’t know was that Ray is quite the guitar virtuoso, and Imogen wasn’t dancing solo, she was joined by her 3 brothers and they are legitimately all incredible dancers. I nearly dropped my camera when Imogen burst onto the stage, floating around like an impala evading a lion with effortless grace and athleticism, a genuine all-time dance floor highlight for me!
Imogen and Ray’s story began in dental school, the classic meet-cute that turned into something much bigger. A first date in a Dunedin coffee shop led to years of adventures together, from moving cities to starting fresh in Adelaide. Their newest chapter even includes their labradoodle Teddy, who quickly became part of their little family. That sense of togetherness carried through their wedding day, where every glance and smile told the story of two people who simply love being by each other’s side.
Their engagement happened in April 2023 at a private hot pool in Queenstown, the kind of setting that feels perfectly them, intimate, thoughtful, and deeply personal. Fast forward to their wedding, and they carried that same spirit into their celebration. Rather than focusing on elaborate details, they chose a venue that could bring everyone together with incredible food and wine. From there, it was all about good company, laughter, and moments that will be remembered for a lifetime.
Imogen and Ray, thanks so much for inviting me along to document your day, I’ll remember that dance as long as I live!
