I first encountered Jessica and Mitchell at the wedding of Jessica’s cousin Stuart many years ago. One of my enduring memories of that wedding was two guys executing the most perfect Gangnam Style dance I’d ever seen (I told you it was many years ago – truth be told I miss wedding dance floor Gangnam, Uptown Funk just isn’t the same). As luck would have it one of the dancers was Mitchell and the other was Jessica’s brother Dylan so when Mitchell and Jessica rolled into my home studio for a chat about their wedding I was already excited.
Quick side note: I was so excited when Gangnam Style started doing the rounds at weddings I even started an album on my facebook page dedicated to photos of people doing it. I thought it would last forever, I thought it was different. Sadly I was wrong and my album got no further than 7 photos 🙁
Out of sadness comes happiness and by the time Jessica and Mitchell’s wedding arrived 18 months later we’d all finished mourning the end of the Gangnam craze. Mitchell and the boys were all keen footballers so we headed down to the oval for a few pre-wedding photos. From there I headed over to get some photos of the girls getting their wedding on before making my way to Al Ru Farm for the ceremony and reception.
The sun was shining, the flowers were out and the fields were begging to have their photo taken so after a super nice ceremony we headed out into the late afternoon sun and made some gorgeous photos. The highlight of the reception was the best man speech by Mitchell’s brother Dylan (a different Dylan), not so much for how it was delivered but for the work that had gone into it. You see, in the lead up to the wedding Mitchell and Dylan had selected a bunch of their childhood photos and recreated them as adults, the before and after shots were projected onto the wall during the speech.
The slideshow started with some cute low key photos (sitting on a picnic rug holding a dolly) and ended up a little more risque (having a shower together with only a skimpy towel covering their modesty). Needless to say big laughs were had by all and the night rounded out with dancing and more laughs.
