On Saturday I had the pleasure of capturing a small and intimate wedding at the Adelaide botanic gardens. With only 9 guests in attendance, the ceremony felt truly special and personal.
A highlight of the day was the smoking ceremony conducted by Uncle Mickey Kumatpi Marrutya O’Brien, which added a beautiful cultural element to the union and provided the interstate guests with an education on the Kaurna people and their connection to the land.
Another highlight was when Ollie and I popped out to get a few photos while Teresa was getting her hair done in her room at Sofitel. We stopped in at the barber shop where, just the day before, he’d received a haircut and a lot of unsolicited advice about marriage from the aging Italian barbers. Almost immediately I was on the receiving end of the unsolicited advice – apparently, I’d been parting my hair to the wrong side my whole life. Next thing I know I’m sitting in the chair and receiving a trim and style myself! And you know what, he was dead right, my crown at the back is on the right-hand side, and I should have been brushing from right to left all these years.
Teresa and Ollie, thank you so much for inviting me along to document your day, every time I style my hair I’ll think of you.
