Chante and Mitch spent some time in Adelaide several years ago through Mitch’s work but neither of them are from here, in fact, almost none of their guests were Adelaideans either so what better place to have as the central hub of the wedding than the iconic Largs Pier Hotel?
They each got ready at the hotel, albeit on different floors, and while they did head into the botanic Gardens for their ceremony, the festivities resumed back at the hotel later in the afternoon.
While I was photographing the preparations I thought to myself how beautiful this old building was and how something like this would never be built these days. The attention to detail and all the little touches would now be replaced by giant glass windows and the most economical construction possible leaving a functional space with absolutely no soul. When the hotel was built near 150 years ago there was nothing around apart from a train station, and the pier itself. Families would take the train down to the seaside and stay in the hotel for their summer holiday, it seems crazy now with all the houses and suburbia built-up all around it, but that’s why this is such a remarkable old building.
It felt fitting that such a solid structure, that has withstood the highs and lows over many generations and is still standing strong, would host a wedding. Chante and Mitch, thanks for inviting me to document your day, here’s hoping your marriage is an enduring as the Largs Pier Hotel.
