It was a nice day for a black wedding as Mahalia and Cam invited all their guests to wear black to their Longview wedding. Mahalia came to the party too in her black dress, and Cam’s suit was such a deep shade of maroon it was nearly black too.
Some love stories begin with grand gestures — others with a cheeky smile, a shared cigarette, and a toppled beer can tower. For Mahalia and Cam, their journey started in the backyard of a house party in Adelaide, surrounded by laughter, good vibes, and a hint of mischief.
Mahalia had just moved back to Adelaide and wasn’t planning to stay long. But fate had a different idea when she spotted Cam — vibrant hair, cheeky smile, and a “bad boy” aura that piqued her curiosity — out the back with his mates. Despite a friend’s warning to steer clear, Mahalia made her move. What followed was playful banter over tattoos, cigarettes, and the now-legendary beer can tower she “accidentally” kicked over. That night sparked a connection they couldn’t ignore, and their friendship soon evolved into something much more.
First date & proposal
Their first date was at Lim’s Chinese in Glenelg — a spot close to Mahalia’s heart since infancy. Cam, skeptical at first, was instantly converted by the food and especially the hot and sour soup. Lim’s became their go-to and holds an even deeper significance now.
Four years later, Cam planned the perfect surprise proposal during a romantic getaway to Willunga. While Mahalia thought he was texting about the footy, Cam was coordinating with his mum to transform their Airbnb patio into a dreamy fairy-lit scene. When Mahalia followed the twinkle of the lights, she found petals, candles, and the ring — completely surprised and overjoyed.
Their wedding day reflected their signature style — dark and moody elegance. Everyone was dressed in black, surrounded by deep, rich florals in purples, reds, and greens. But the moment Mahalia was most excited for? Walking back down the aisle with Cam — her husband.
