Q: What happens when you combine The Big Day Out with a time honoured tradition where rings are exchanged and promises made?
A: Chloe and Andy’s wedding.
It started like any other wedding, a group of guys kicking back acting way too relaxed for such a big occasion. A bunch of girls being prettied up by a team of hair and makeup specialists. The boys had beer. The girls had champagne (well, Bird In Hand Sparkling Pinot Noir). There were plenty of laughs in all directions. The ceremony was great, the priest was the most genuine bloke you could imagine, a real salt of the earth guy who was incredibly dry and funny and said the word “bloody” a lot.
Then it was party time.
The cocktail reception was where things really kicked off. There was a laptop and a DJ Sign Up blackboard where you could book in your 30 slot to dictate the tunes. The speeches were a bit unconventional, particularly Andy’s speech where he channelled Henry Rollins and delivered his views on the wedding industry, marriage equality (he was pro equality FYI) and a whole bunch of other stuff that you don’t often hear at a wedding!! The consistent theme through it all though that everyone were just such real, just genuine people who didn’t do things because that’s the way you’re supposed to do them. Weddings are funny things, there’s a lot of stuff that goes along with them, a lot pressure to do certain things, or to not do certain things, but at the core of it they should be about two people making a promise to each other in front of their family and friends and then having a party and it’s fair to say Chloe and Andy totally nailed it.
Shortly after writing this blog post I learned that Chloe actually broker her leg at the wedding after party (yes, they had an after party, I told you it was rock and roll) and the honeymoon had to be delayed till later in the year – total rock star move!!
