A phrase that gets said at a lot of my meetings with couples is “we hate having our photo taken, one of us is always blinking, we’ve got like 2 nice photos of us”. I assume that these couples are sitting on my couch because they like my informal approach to wedding photography and the images it produces, I almost feel like I’m the photographer you book when you don’t want a photographer!
Whatever the case, it’s always a breath of fresh air when a bride comes along who loves having her photo taken, and Becky was that bride! They booked a long time in advance and whenever I looked up at my whiteboard of upcoming weddings I would see their names, smile and think this will be a good wedding.
Over the years I’ve learned that weddings that have a strong overseas contingent are guaranteed to be a lot of fun. When you’ve got half the wedding party and a bunch of guests visiting Australia just for the wedding you know these people are ready to party like they’re on spring break in Cancun, and Becky’s bridesmaids and family delivered in spades as the dancefloor photos towards the end of this post show!
Penny’s Hill is such a great spot for a wedding and we managed to get some good weather and some epic photos as a result. As the sun was setting I grabbed Becky and Tom for a couple of minutes and took a quick photo in front of a tree they liked, I don’t generally like to interrupt once the reception is in full swing but if conditions are great then I’ll often see if a couple is up for a super quick sunset shot.
